Platform

Progressive Harford County is guided by the values of racial, social, economic and environmental justice. The chapter is organizing for transformational change around the following priorities.

Racial Justice

  • Welcoming and Inclusive Harford — Too many Harford County residents have negative experiences of being isolated or unwelcomed in their own neighborhood. Progressive Harford advocates for more community centers, especially in communities of color, so residents can build community through more local programming.

Social Justice

  • Charter Edgewood — Edgewood has the largest population in Harford County, yet it doesn't have a City Council. Progressive Harford supports chartering Edgewood as its own municipality so the residents have autonomy over local resources.

  • Housing for All — Progressive Harford believes that housing is a human right. The chapter wants every resident in the county to have shelter.

  • State-Sponsored Health Care for All — Progressive Harford believes that health care is a human right. We are urging the Maryland General Assembly to pass legislation to ensure every Marylander has health care.

Economic Justice

  • Sustainable Development — Developers have had too much power for too long in Harford County. Progressive Harford advocates for keeping housing affordable, more equitably allocating community resources and combating the negative environmental impacts of over-development.

Environmental Justice

  • Preserve Green Spaces — Progressive Harford believes that all residents are responsible for protecting our environment. The chapter wants to increase green spaces to preserve the natural beauty of Harford County.

Do you want to add to these priorities? We’d love to hear from you! Progressive Harford’s platform is constantly evolving and updating to meet the needs of the chapter.
